About FlareFi

Hello!

I'm Caleb, the creator behind FlareFi.

I've been interested in personal finance and investing for years. I was blown away when I first learned about the power of investing and compound interest. Since then, I have continuously saved over 40% of my income and learned everything I could about personal finance.

It became a personal goal of mine to share what I've learned and my ideas with others. Many people assume investing is only for the already-wealthy or that it's too complicated to understand, but I believe that with the right tools and explanations, anyone can grasp the basics and make informed decisions about their money.

Today, I work as a Software Engineer, and I build FlareFi in my spare time to share the tools and insights I've found most helpful. My hope is that FlareFi can be a resource for anyone looking to understand how money works and make informed decisions about their financial future.

Why I Built FlareFi

When I started learning more seriously about personal finance, I noticed a pattern. Many existing articles either didn't have visualizations to back up their explanations, or they had tools that were unpolished, incomplete, or difficult to understand. I knew that with my technical background, I could build something better that would make the concepts clearer and more accessible.

So I started FlareFi.

This site is my attempt to use my engineering background to create clear, informative, and beautiful financial tools that help people visualize how money behaves over time. The calculators here are designed to be simple, flexible, and honest to best guide you towards your financial goals.

How I Think About Money

I don't believe there's a single “right” path. At the end of the day, money is nothing more than a tool to accomplish the things you care about. For some people, that might mean retiring early. For others, it might mean having the freedom to travel, start a business, or support their family.

The biggest mistake that can be made is taking an inactive approach to money. Without taking the time and energy to organize your finances, you risk not being able to do the things that are important to you. Goals like retirement, financial independence, buying a home, or even just having a safety net are all within reach for all people, but they require some intentionality and effort.

On the other hand, money is just a tool and very much so is a means to an end. What that end is will be different for everyone, but without some intentionality, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of money itself and lose sight of the things that actually bring us joy and fulfillment. It's important to remember that pursuit of money is not a good goal by itself.

Where FlareFi Is Headed

FlareFi is an ongoing project. Over time, I plan to:

  • add more calculators and scenarios
  • improve visualizations
  • expand educational content around assumptions and tradeoffs
  • keep the tools accessible and transparent

This site is built for the long term, and I intend to keep improving it over the long-term.

If you have feedback, ideas, or questions, I genuinely welcome them.

Thanks for being here!
